Rome Wild Reflections

When we first started Rome Wild, every adventure on the hiking trails felt like a sprint. There was a pressure we manufactured to capture every tree, every stream, every tree line on camera. We chased after compositions we felt we were supposed to photograph. This year, that all changed. In 2024, we decided to lean into that moody, almost ethereal aesthetic we love - pausing to look for the details; moments which make up the magic of a place.
When we first travelled to England two years ago, we tried to capture as much of the city of London within every frame. This incredibly ornate structure, which was once a Turkish spa dating back to England’s Victorian Era caught my eye on that trip. I tried to cram the building’s stained glass windows into one composition. When I look back, I find the image looks busy.
When we returned to London this year, I focused only on the door frame - which I think adds a bit more mystery. Through the darkness of the door frame, if you look closely, you can see one of the stained glass windows through the other side. Both prints are still available to order in our City Landscapes collection, but I can’t help but prefer our latest one, ‘A Sanctuary Still’.
In Rod’s ‘But First Coffee’ print of a red brick wall with the word coffee and an arrow-sign, you’d never know where it might have been photographed. While shot in Shoreditch, London, we’ve noticed that the location is not what draws people to this print. Rather, it’s our shared love of coffee, whether it be a gift for a fellow coffee lover, or a décor accent to add to your kitchen, directing guests to help themselves to a fresh pot of coffee.
It’s details like these we tried to look for all year long. Moments which reflect the mood of a season, from winter to autumn. As we tally up the photographs we’ve shot in the past year, it’s considerably less than what we’ve shot in previous years. But our hikes no longer feel like a mad dash. We are getting better at standing still and being present in the moment.
Before we look ahead to 2025, we want to thank you ever so much for all your support over the past year. We appreciate each and every one of you for continuing to follow us along on this Wild journey. As the winter season draws near, we hope you are able to rest and reset. Just a few more days until the sunlight begins to return, and a new season begins.
We will be having a Give Away in celebration of the Winter Solstice over the next week! Be sure to follow us on Instagram for details on how to participate!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Stay Wild,
Meg & Rod
