Winter Decor following the Holiday Season

Mid-Winter is our most challenging time of year when it comes to adding new artwork to our Print Collection. It's a time of year where we seem to always second-guess our work. Returning to the same question: who wants to be reminded of the winter season all year long? While our Print Collection is curated around the four seasons of the year, we have tried to limit the winter-themed prints in our collection because of this very question we ask ourselves.
So when February of this year began, we did everything we could to avoid the season we were in. Instead of capturing the freshly fallen snow along the trails of Toronto, we focused on still life photography indoors. Rather than photograph the frozen shorelines of Lake Ontario, we turned our lenses upwards to the vibrant evening skies.
But in our attempt to ignore the winter season, Mother Nature managed to captivate us all the more. On one very chilly afternoon, we took a long walk along Toronto’s Harbour to photograph the sunset. The golden sky took up so much space across the horizon, but what inspired us that day was instead a family of swans. They rested along the ice, nestled in the middle of the anchored cruise ships. Busy as can be, when it seemed the rest of the city was in hibernation.
Or this past week, when snow billowed from every direction for days on end. But when it stopped and the sun came out to play, we couldn’t wait to walk through the snow covered pine trees. Everything about the day reminding us of winters long gone; sunlight and nostalgia seeping through the trees.
It made us realize how fortunate we are to experience all four seasons here in Canada. It is the very reason we started Rome Wild; to embrace the seasons all year long and create a collection of Wall Art Prints for every season through our photography.
