Summer Photography Routine

While the summer season has only just begun, it has sent us a rush of creativity. In summer’s past, we kept our photography adventures on a strict schedule, waking up as early as four a.m. to catch the sunrise.
This year, we have eased up on the stringent timeline, and instead are getting used to simply having our cameras on-hand, should we feel inspired. So far, the results have been a bit scattered.

Summers were often our time to build a new themed collection or focus on one particular location, but this season we’re all about observing. Accepting when we need rest, and enjoy a relaxing morning at home. Or when the sun is at its height and the mid-morning light is too washed out to find anything decent to photograph, we pay attention - with our cameras at the ready. It’s in this balance we notice details that we may have otherwise missed, or sometimes, we miss the details altogether, and that’s okay too.

We’ve also returned to our favourite camera lenses, instead of pressuring ourselves to utilize equipment that doesn’t fit our aesthetic style. At the start of the year, we set an intention to try out different equipment. Rod used my old prime 50mm lens (still one of my favourites), while I was trying out his wide angle 14 - 30mm lens. While it was great to get out of our comfort zones, we both know our styles well enough by now to use the camera equipment that works for us.
Sometimes, the pressure we are too often compelled to put on ourselves will only stifle one’s creativity. In letting go, that’s where the scattered magic happens.
A few of these scattered musings have made their way into our Print Collection and we invite you to check them out:
