Adorned in Spring: Botanical Photography Series

In our last blog, we were on a quest for our favourite colour of the spring season: green. Over the past month, we hiked the ravines of Toronto, and explored the shorelines of Lake Ontario and Lake Muskoka; all in hopes to find shades of green painted across the landscape.
Yet when April neared its end, the trees were still bare. It was only when we turned our attention from the tree lines to the forest floor that we found what we’d been looking for. The earth is where rich jewel toned greens hide in plain sight.

Through our impatience, we got creative. We wanted to find a way to photograph that feeling of being stuck in the in-between of seasons. Using crystals from a vintage chandelier, we combined still life with spring garden botanicals. We created compositions of the crystal suspended in the lingering north winds, or nestled within the garden, as it waited to feel the warmth of the sun.

The atmosphere that day captured the feeling exactly. It was one of those in-between days. The wind blew cold against a backdrop of dark grey clouds. Without the glare of the sun, the garden tulips created rich pops of colour through the lens.

Though very different from our typical photography style, it was so much fun to sit along the grass next to the garden fence, and take time to capture this scene from different angles. No longer impatient; we felt energized for the seasons to come.
It’s exercises like this which continue to propel our passion for photography. Photography reminds us to shift our perspectives. To notice the details of every season, even when it can feel like they’re suspended. We find joy in the pause.

Since this shoot, the trees have bloomed, and the days slowly get warmer. Before we know it, summer will be around the corner. In the coming weeks, we will be working on our new collection for 2025. For now, you can check out more of our latest work or follow us along on social media.
We want to say thank you for reading our blogs. We love showcasing our work in this format, and we hope you enjoy reading it. If you have any topics you’d like us to write about for the summer season, please let us know in the comments.
Stay Wild,
